Riverside Beach at NRC Solomons is an oasis on the river. This horseshoe beach offers a great escape from the mid-day summer heat and amazing sunsets at night.
The beach is located just north of the Riverside Aquatics Complex and offers 400 feet of shoreline, sandy beaches, and is the only designated river swimming area on NRC Solomons.
Swimming is permitted in the designated swimming area when lifeguards are on duty. Pets are not permitted on the designated swimming beach but are allowed on the remaining beach from Club 9 to Sunset Pier. Pets must be on a leash and registered with the Lodging department.
Picnic tables and lounge chairs are available at the beach for your use on a first come/first serve basis. Guests are authorized to bring small 10x10 pop-up tents, but to ensure the safety of everyone, they can only be set up in the area behind the lifeguard stands. Guests are welcome to bring coolers to the beach. Parking for the beach is located across the street from the entry point to the beach. The entire shoreline is patrolled daily during the summer.
The following items are unauthorized at the Riverside Beach:
- Alcoholic Beverages
- Glass Containers
- Grills
- Large inflatable rafts
- Kayaks/SUPS/Canoes (guests can utilize the beach adjacent to the fishing pier for the use of their personally owned non motorized water equipment)
- Vehicles (to include golf carts/ATVs)
- Fishing/Crabbing
Please be advised that the Patuxent River does have aquatic life that may require the lifeguards to clear the water for safety reasons. There are jellyfish in the Patuxent River, with the peak time frame beginning in mid-July, that sometimes pose a painful reaction, specifically for children and advise that guests plan accordingly with proper supplies to treat. Lifeguards do have baking soda and vinegar on hand that can make a soothing paste to assist.
