Ombudsman Spotlight: Kayla Favara

A picture of Kayla Favara in front of American and Navy flagsThe Navy Ombudsman Support Program, which is coordinated by the Fleet & Family Support Center, provides information and referrals to assist Command families with concerns or issues by regularly communicating and distributing information to and from the Command and the unit's family members and by keeping the Command informed regarding the overall health, morale and welfare of the families in the Command. Ombudsmen are key resources for family members, particularly during deployments. 

Commands at NAS Patuxent River are supported by a team of volunteer Ombudsmen. Kayla Favara is one such volunteer, who supports VXS-1 and Naval Test Wing Atlantic.

Favara is a dedicated advocate for Navy families, committed to providing essential resources, fostering clear communication and offering compassionate support to service members and their loved ones. As a Navy veteran and Ombudsman, she brings firsthand experience and a deep understanding of the challenges military families face, ensuring they have access to the information, guidance and assistance they need to navigate the demands of military life.

Having proudly served four years in Navy, Favara has a unique perspective on the sacrifices and resilience required of both service members and their families. This experience drives her passion for supporting military communities and bridging the gap between Command leadership and families.

Favara earned a Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences from Old Dominion University, equipping her with the knowledge and skills to assist families with empathy and professionalism. With expertise in crisis support, conflict resolution and resource coordination, she is dedicated to connecting families with the right services, advocating for their well-being and promoting a strong sense of community within the Command.

With 15+ years of experience in customer service, health care and military background, Favara is known for being an active listener and a compassionate problem-solver. Whether assisting families with relocation services, mental health resources, childcare options or emergency preparedness, she ensures that every interaction is handled with discretion, respect and confidentiality.
